Cartier ‘Into The Wild’ Exhibition

The Challenge

One of the world's most prestigious and celebrated luxury houses, Cartier, wanted to launch its first-ever touring exhibition 'Into The Wild' in Hong Kong. It was an immersive experience that invited visitors to explore the heritage of the House's icon - La Panthère - and embark on a journey to discover the story behind the feline emblem. In addition to adapting the headquarter designs for Hong Kong, 'Into The Wild' required new design adaptations and experiences to better suit the local audience, as well as overcoming the challenge of configuring all the intended flows within the tight space and low ceiling constraints of the K11 Musea space.

The Approach

LORE worked with Cartier's global and local teams to realise the headquarters' vision for the exhibition, while creating and designing new, unique, shareable experiences to drive engagement. LORE brought the spirit and story of the Panther to life by venturing beyond a conventional visual experience into the realm of immersive theatre. The exhibition incorporated interactive content, kinetic technology, spatialised sound and storytelling actors in a maze of interconnected rooms to showcase the iconic Panthère universe.

Sharability through viral, Instagrammable moments was key to the exhibition's success and the benchmark for 'Into The Wild' experiences. LORE reinvented and in some cases invented moments. The exhibition façade was enhanced with striking gold paint, 3D backlit panther spots and a gold framed light tunnel entrance.

To immerse visitors in the three stylized expression of the panther - graphic, sculptural and naturalistic - LORE created the 'Design Room' in Cartier's signature aesthetic, with a series of mirrored infinity tunnels. Visitors could enter a graphic golden frame, explore a storm of abstract shapes or take a naturalistic stroll between coated walls of spotted fur. The three tunnels were an instant hit on social media. They became a permanent feature of subsequent exhibitions globally.

The 'Collection' area was the final room in the extensive panther den designed by LORE. Inside, carefully curated collections were juxtaposed with shareable moments - visitors could pose with a giant faceted panther head, lenticular sculptural walls and infinity displays, or sit in a stylish library and enclosed lounge. LORE also designed and curated the workshop space, inventing a myriad of experiential themes alongside artists, ateliers and performers.

Beyond our production and technical expertise and delivery covering 1,000 sq.ft., LORE staffed and managed the day to day performance, guided tours, workshops and hospitality of the 12 unique rooms across the 3 weeks in the fall of 2021 for the first ‘Into The Wild’ world exhibition opening up the wonders of the Panthère universe.
