Swire Symphony Under the Stars

The Challenge

Every year, the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra’s Swire Symphony Under The Stars concert transforms the Central Harbourfront area into a dense patchwork of music-loving picnickers. Supported by the orchestra’s principal patron Swire, the celebrated outdoor musical event will offer audiences highlighted pieces of classical orchestral music performed by the Hong Kong Philharmonic. Each year the biggest challenge is delivering an outdoor experience that retains the orchestra’s quality of sound for an audience of 18,000 whilst ensuring safety, spectacle and comfort.

The Approach

LORE’s familiarity with the venue and the event allowed us to handle the complex technical 3 days setup with health and safety as a priority for the overall event. The evening launched with an opening ceremony by executives placing musical notes on a large sweeping musical score. The HK Phil invited two young Hong Kong prodigies, pianist Johnson Li and violinist Paloma So to perform against the Hong Kong skyline. The grand finale, delivered by the HK Phil, was a visually dazzling choreographed pyrotechnic show to Tchaikovsky’s 1812 festival Overture - a performance almost as beautiful as the music. In the end, ensuring smooth, safe logistics for the public and adhering to Government guidelines, licensing and regulations, allowed LORE to implement a fantastic community event under the stars with a strong sustainability angle.
